August 30, 1946 - December 23, 2016 Benito (Ben) C. Tan, Ph.D., an internationally recognized botanist, Researcher at the University and Jepson Herbaria at UC Berkeley, elected fellow of the California Academy of Sciences, and Richard Spruce Award recipient, died of cancer at age 70 in Los Angeles, CA. He will be remembered as an engaging conversationalist to his close friends, thoughtful mentor who was never too busy to nurture the minds of aspiring botanists to his students, and collaborative colleague to his peers. His legacy lives on in everyone whose lives he has touched. He is survived by his siblings, Conchita C. Tan, Pacita C. Tan M.D., Lolita C. Tan, Aurora Tan Li, Juliana Tansiueng, and Bernardo C. Tan. The viewing will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park (Malaga Room) in Ranch Palos Verdes from 3 to 8pm on Friday, December 30, 2016.
